The Certificate for Carers in Special Education Needs (SEN) – Level 2 has been designed to equip carers with the foundational knowledge, practical skills, and competencies required to support children with special educational needs and disabilities. The programme also serves as a preparatory pathway for learners who wish to progress to the Certificate for Carers in Special Education Needs Level 3. 

Developed in consultation with stakeholders in the SEN sector, including Special Education Needs Authorities (SENA), the programme addresses the growing need for qualified and competent carers in Mauritius. It aims to support inclusive education practices and improve the quality of care provided to children with disabilities in both specialised and mainstream educational settings.

Programme Purpose

This programme is intended for individuals who do not meet the minimum entry requirement for direct admission into the Certificate for Carers in Special Education Needs Level 3. It provides participants with the necessary academic foundation and practical understanding to ensure a smooth transition into higher-level studies in the SEN field.

Candidates possessing the required minimum qualification (NCE) may enrol directly into the Level 3 programme, while others may follow this Level 2 pathway to bridge the gap and strengthen their competencies.

Certificate of Primary Education (CPE)/Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) or
any alternative acceptable qualification at Level 1 of the NQF
