Globally, the demands on pharmacy professionals are changing dramatically from a technical paradigm that relies on compounding and dispensing to a cognitive paradigm that includes patient counselling, which primarily increases the burden of pharmacists. In order to address this new trend and provide the best possible patient care, pharmacy staff duties need to be expanded to allow pharmacists to assign some of their work to other pharmacy staff members, especially pharmacy technicians and dispensers.
