The “Fire Safety and Emergency Response Preparedness” course is a train-the trainer programme designed to equip aspiring trainers with essential knowledge and skills in fire safety and emergency preparedness. This comprehensive programme, offered by Polytechnics Mauritius in collaboration with the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS), aims to provide candidates with a foundational understanding of fire safety principles and practical techniques necessary for effective emergency response. Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will be eligible for registration with the MFRS.

Programme Aims & Objectives

The aims of this Fire Safety and Emergency Response Preparedness are to:

  1. Provide candidates with a foundational understanding of fire safety principles and practical techniques necessary for effective emergency response.
  2. Act as a pathway for individuals to be registered as trainer with MFRS in the field of fire safety.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, the certificate holders will be equipped with key concepts and skills required to progress as a professional in the field. The certificate holders will be able to:

  1. Basic Knowledge Acquisition: To impart participants with fundamental knowledge of fire behavior, fire prevention, and the principles of emergency response.
  2. Skill Development: To equip participants with practical skills in fire extinguishing techniques, handling of firefighting equipment, and emergency evacuation procedures.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: To ensure participants are familiar with relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines governing fire safety, thereby enabling them to adhere to legal requirements and best practices.
  4. Preparedness Enhancement: To enhance participants’ readiness to effectively respond to fire emergencies, minimize risks, and mitigate the potential consequences of fire incidents.
  5. Registration with MFRS: To enable participants to meet the requirements for registration with the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services, thereby becoming recognized contributors to fire safety and emergency response efforts within their communities.

The “Fire Safety and Emergency Response Preparedness” course is designed to cater to a diverse range of individuals who have an interest in fire safety and emergency response, as well as those who are required to fulfil specific job roles or regulatory requirements related to fire safety. The target group for this course includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Occupational Health and Safety Professionals: Health and safety officers, risk managers, and workplace supervisors seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in fire safety management and emergency preparedness.
  2. Facility Managers and Building Owners: Professionals responsible for managing commercial, industrial, or residential properties, including building managers, facility maintenance personnel, and property owners.
  3. Security Personnel: Security guards, surveillance officers, and facility security managers tasked with maintaining safety and security measures, including fire prevention and emergency response protocols.

No formal entry requirements. However, a basic understanding and experience in Fire Safety will be beneficial in some modules.
